Can I operate the Omnipod 5 using my own mobile device?

Currently in Europe, Omnipod 5 connects with the dedicated controller and not with any smartphone. We are continuing to develop our offering. However, Omnipod is unable to comment further with any specific details at this time.

Why have certain smartphones been excluded from the list of compatible devices for the Omnipod 5 App?

If Omnipod detects an issue that may impact a user's ability to log into or use the Omnipod 5 App, that specific phone model will be excluded from the list. Omnipod suggests individuals using or considering purchasing a compatible smartphone refer to the models on the smartphone compatibility page or utilize the Omnipod 5 Controller within the Omnipod 5 Intro Kit.

If I have a compatible smartphone, how do I start using it to control the Omnipod 5 System?

Prior to using the Omnipod 5 App on your smartphone, you must log in to the provided Omnipod 5 Controller with your Omnipod ID. If you do not already have one, you can set up an ID at http://www.omnipod.com/setup. After receiving your ID, complete the necessary login steps on the Controller to create your account and log into the Omnipod 5 App on your phone with the same ID.

Is it possible to control the Omnipod 5 System using both the Omnipod 5 Controller and my personal compatible smartphone?

The Omnipod 5 System requires either the included Omnipod 5 Controller or OmniPod 5 App on a compatible smartphone to operate—you can't run both at the same time. If you switch between the two devices, the algorithm won't adjust, and your insulin delivery history and settings won't transfer. We suggest you upload your recent data to Glooko and keep a record of your settings for easy transition.

Deactivate any currently worn Pod before activating a new one since a Pod cannot communicate with two devices simultaneously. For a seamless transition between devices, try to time the switch with a scheduled Pod change.

What if I lose or break my personal smartphone?

If you use a compatible personal smartphone to control the Omnipod 5 System and it is damaged, lost, or stolen, you can switch to the controller supplied by Insulet. However, you will have to initiate set up again on the provided controller.

Will insulin delivery control work in Airplane mode?

The Omnipod 5 System can be used safely during flight, though the atmospheric pressure may fluctuate. To make sure you can communicate with your Pod, set your Controller to Airplane Mode, which maintains Bluetooth while disabling cellular & Wi-Fi. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled after turning ON Airplane Mode, and always keep Bluetooth ON to operate the Omnipod 5 App.
